TV: Super Bowl ads a waste of $$$

Many say they'll watch the Super Bowl just for the commercials, but a new study finds all those viewers don't translate into sales. Those Super Bowl ads are not cheap, and cost advertisers about four-million dollars for a 30-second advertisement. Furthermore a new study finds that 80-percent of Super Bowl ads fail to increase sales of their product. That rate is far lower than the non-Super Bowl fail rate of 60-percent. The study asked consumers about their purchasing habits and opinions on brands before Super Bowl, and then again four weeks later, and found that Super Bowl ads are remembered at a higher rate than other ads, 44-percent versus 32-percent. Researchers say Super Bowl ads fail to translate into sales because they focus too much on telling a story or a creative idea rather than promoting their specific brand. (Yahoo)
